Custom Decks for Norris Lake Homes
Lake House Living on Norris
Norris Lake is famous for clear water, quiet coves and wooded shorelines that feel a world away from town. Lake homes here often sit high on steep, wooded lots, which makes the deck the most important room in the house. It’s where you watch the sunrise over the water, gather after a day on the boat and look out across the ridges at night. Smoky Mountain Deck Builders designs and builds custom decks for Norris Lake homes and has completed deck projects in Sharps Chapel, Andersonville, New Tazewell, Jacksboro and Rocky Top.
Recent Norris-Area Projects
- Sharps Chapel: a three-story TimberTech deck that takes full advantage of a steep lake lot and a big view.
- Andersonville: a new TimberTech Terrain+ deck with a picture-frame border, plus two re-decks, one in TimberTech and one in Deckorators Voyage with Harmony aluminum railing.
- New Tazewell: frame replacement and a Trex re-deck that gave an aging deck a solid new structure and a low-maintenance surface.
- Jacksboro: a re-deck with an aluminum under-deck system that keeps the space below dry.
- Rocky Top: a Deckorators re-deck with Harmony aluminum railing.
Building on Steep Lake Lots
Norris lots can drop off fast, and multi-story decks are common. Building safely on that kind of terrain takes careful planning: properly sized posts and beams, solid footings in the right places and stairs that are comfortable to walk. The three-story deck in Sharps Chapel is a good example of what’s possible with the right design. We evaluate every site in person and show you the finished deck in a 3D rendering before construction begins.
Low-Maintenance Materials for Lake Life
Nobody wants to spend lake weekends sanding and staining. That’s why most of our Norris-area projects use composite decking from TimberTech, Trex or Deckorators. Composite resists fading, staining and mold, cleans with soap and water, and never needs sealing. Aluminum railing, like the Harmony systems we’ve installed in Andersonville and Rocky Top, holds up to lake humidity and keeps the view open.
Re-Decking: New Life for an Older Lake Deck
Many lake homes around Norris have decks that were built years ago. If the frame is still sound, a re-deck replaces worn boards with composite for a like-new surface. If the frame isn’t, we replace it, as we did in New Tazewell. Either way, we’ll inspect it and give you an honest recommendation.
Make Use of the Space Below
On a tall lake deck, the area underneath can be one of your best spaces if it stays dry. An under-deck system catches and channels water away, creating a shaded, dry patio for lounging, storage or an outdoor kitchen. Learn more on our covered decks and under-deck ceilings page.
Planning Ahead for a Norris Lake Project
Norris projects often mean longer drives and more remote sites, so planning matters. Most outdoor projects take 3 to 8 weeks from the start of construction, and we handle the permits with the right county office. Norris Lake is a TVA reservoir, and shoreline work like docks requires a TVA Section 26a permit. Learn how that process works on our boat docks page, and ask us about your shoreline.
